Our Catholic schools are strengthened by clergy and lay people working together with faith and commitment for the education of our young people. We are very grateful for the commitment of our parish volunteers who accept the call to serve on an Education Committee.
The role of the Education Committee is to implement Catholic Independent Schools Vancouver Archdiocese (CISVA) policies, and promote Catholic education, its values and benefits to the community through regular meetings. Members of the Education will collaborate with the Principal and Pastor to develop local policies, participate in long-term planning, and ensure the safe and orderly operation of the school (collection of fees, payment of operating expenses, facilities, maintenance, parent participation, etc.) Members also support the Principal, work in harmony with the Pastor and parish organizations, and pray for other members of the Committee, Catholic schools and the communities they serve.
Parish Education Committee (for St. Bernadette Elementary School): The Parish Education Committee is composed of seven members of which five are elected by members of the parish and two are appointed by the Pastor. The Pastor is ex-officio a member of the Committee and of all sub-committees. Regional Education Committee (for Holy Cross Regional High School): Each participating parish will send two members to the Education Committee for a regional school. One member shall be elected by the parish and one member appointed by the Pastor. If a parish has no Education Committee, both members shall be appointed by the Pastor.
If you are interested in volunteering for one of our Education Committees, please contact the parish office at any time. We can then begin your nomination process. To be eligible to participate, you must be a practicing Catholic, receive your Pastor’s approval, and must have reached the age of twenty-one (21). However, if you are a teacher or principal of the CISVA; a past employee of the school (until three full calendar years have passed since the termination of employment); an employee of the parish and/or school; or the spouse, child, parent, brother or sister of persons covered as above; you would not be eligible to participate. Nominated candidates (that are not appointed by the Pastor) will be posted by the parish in May each year so that a vote may take place on the last weekend in May and the new members will attend the June meeting.
